Crews will be upsizing the main sewer line that leads into the City's sewage treatment plant (STP) during the first few months of 2025.
The City's sewer systems is gravity-fed, with sewer from the whole City flowing through this pipe before it gets to the treatment plan. The demand (amount of sewer going through the pipe) is becoming to much for the current size. For this reason, we are replacing the existing 500 mm AC Sanitary Sewer line with a significantly larger 750mm PVC mainline.

This project has several components:
upsizing of sewer line
new manholes
repaving of the affected section of Graham Avenue
To safely maintain sewer operations, pumps and generators will need to run 24 hours a day and this may cause some slight noise disturbances. At times, traffic in the area (5100 Graham Avenue block) will also need to be rerouted, likely onto Mills Street and Apple Street. (Residents in the area have been notified.)
This project is funded through the City's Northern Capital & Planning Grant Reserve and funded through the Northwest BC Resource Benefits Alliance Agreement with the Province of BC. Through that agreement, the City of Terrace was awarded almost $35 million over five years to support the renewal or replacement of capital assets, and construction of infrastructure, such as roads, water, sewer and other amenities.
