June 2025 Update - Community feedback to date

What community feedback have you received so far?

In the fall of 2024, the City of Terrace launched “Our City. Our Future. A 20-Year Vision”, a community-wide engagement process to inform our Official Community Plan update. Over the course of two months, the City connected with community members through:

  • 10 working groups with ongoing meetings (More info about working groups)
  • 2 Farmers’ Market pop-up booths (110 attendees)
  • Interactive map (238 comments) (More info about love map)
  • Project website (425 visits)
  • Fillable postcards asking residents what they love about Terrace (5,200 sent, 103 completed and received)

Topics we heard about from you!

What key themes emerged from the feedback?

  • Love for the outdoors: This is a town made up of outdoor and nature enthusiasts! Majority of comments received value the aspects of nature and the ability to access and recreate outdoors. Nature, and access to it, is a significant attribute to the well-being and livability of this community.

  • Love of parks: From the comments received, people value our neighbourhood parks, walking trails, destination parks and recreation facilities! The data collected from the love map provides valuable insight into what areas people use for outdoor recreation needing protection and enhancement, and notes areas where we could expand parkland dedication.

  • Downtown love: The downtown, specifically George Little Park and Farmers Market is the heart of our community. Despite some critical feedback received, it is mirrored with love for its local entrepreneurs/shop owners, historic features, beautification, meeting spaces, and is where the social and institutional spaces people value most are located.

How is community engagement and feedback considered in the OCP Update?

Community engagement is an important and valued part of this planning process. Input received from all audiences enables Mayor and Council to make informed land use decisions across the Terrace.

Input received through community engagement introduces ideas and perspectives that may not be explored through technical planning work alone.

The results of the OCP Update will ensure that the recommended land uses and policies respect community values, within the scope of the provincial legislative requirements.
